Amherst is Still Awesome

I have been very busy since my last post.  I spent Thursday and Friday in Amherst enjoying the 6th annual  Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival.  Saturday was a pot-luck afternoon get-together of cousins, aunts and uncles on my father's side of the family. Today was spent with my parents as we celebrated their 62nd wedding annivrsary.
I made the wallhanging behind for their 50th   The design is from a floor tile in their kitchen.  Mum is almost 82 and Dad is 87 and hates getting his photo taken

The following photos were taken at First Baptist Church on Victoria Street in Amherst.  A display by Cumberland Quilters Guild as part of Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival

my niece wanted me to keep this quilt in  mind if I ever need to make a baby quilt in the future

The most amazing stained glass window
The ladies sirts were made from vintage hankies

Thought this was cute

The next photos are from a display by Quilt Expressions at Christ Church.  Lots of wonderful traditional quilts with lots of handquilting

This was my favourite. -  from the 40s
The lighting was poor so I didnt get as many photos as I had hoped plus there was just too much happening.  Plus I was a bit overexcited.  I tend to do that.
I really didnt get to do everything I wanted, so I will plan better for next year. I really want to take a workshop or two. Now that my niece is living there, I have a place to stay and enjoy.    If you get a chance to visit Amherst during Festival Week, I highly suggest that you do.  Oh, I almost forgot...The Zonta Bazaar was amazing.  There was so much to see and buy.  A wool lover's heaven. Lots of vendors.
I spent all the money I had saved especially for this trip.  The new quilt shop in town, Mrs P's Emporium, was just lovely.  I found the Fairy Frost and Mirror Ball Dot fat quarters that I had wanted as well as a few other things on my list.  At Dayle's. I found the fabric I wanted for pillowcases I am making for my niece.   I had an amazing time.  AMHERST is AWESOME!   Had to stop at It's Sew Time on the drive home...found the perfect tan batiks I have been looking for.
After all the new inspiration I really need to get sewing!
